Recap: 1st Annual Go Green Clean-Up

Earth Day 2023 was one worth celebrating. The volunteers for the Go Green Clean-Up managed to collect more than 𝟯𝟭𝟱 𝗹𝗯𝘀 of trash and 𝟳𝟱+ 𝗹𝗯𝘀 of plastic off the streets.

On the morning of the Clean-Up, we gathered at Continental Square in front of Prince Street Café. The Café generously provided muffins and coffee for all the volunteers. Keep PA Beautiful donated vests, gloves, and trash bags. CRDC donated green bags specifically for plastic. Resource York donated extra gloves.

Once everyone finished fueling up on breakfast, the volunteers assembled into their crews to tackle three different areas in York City. One group was assigned to clean up Penn Street, another group focused on Jackson Street, and the final group was responsible for Salem Square. Determined to leave the City cleaner than before, the crews picked up litter as they made their way to their designated areas.

After a couple hours of hard work, the clean-up crews walked back to the after-party at Granfalloons. The party was a chance for volunteers to relax, connect, and enjoy some well-deserved refreshments. The highlight of the event was a live performance by Peter Bottros, who had kindly volunteered to perform at the after-party.

We’re extremely grateful for all the support and hard work from everyone involved. The Go Green Clean-Up serves as a reminder that even though our local community is faced with many challenges, our impact is greater when we work together. We’re looking forward to the 2nd Annual Go Green Clean-Up event and hope to attract more volunteers and collect even more waste, making York City cleaner and more beautiful with each passing year.
